Birthday.

Art : Society.

By Sakuan.

My birthday was yesterday, the twenty-first of January, I don’t celebrate birthdays. I think there are two types of people, those who look at birthdays as an accomplishment and those who simply exist, I exist.

You can approach birthdays in two different ways, celebrating another year of being alive or celebrating one year closer to your death, if you’re the latter type then why would you celebrate a birthday?

Are you optimistic or pessimistic, can you be both? The reason I don’t celebrate birthdays is because my family is not accustomed to it. Growing up the only holiday we celebrated was Christmas. When we moved to America we stopped celebrating Christmas altogether, I don’t know why but we did, Christmas at my family is just like any other day. I’m okay with it, I hope that’s not a bad thing.

Back to my birthday, I don’t really do anything for my birthday, I turned twenty-six yesterday and as far as accomplishments go, I have accomplished a lot of things, things that I’m proud of, as I should.

For the twenty-six years I’ve been alive I’ve experienced a lot of things and being from a third-world country the things I’ve seen, heard, and/or partake in are interesting to say the least. It is so weird how social constructs can be different between two places on earth, that’s a story for another day.

I don’t really have much to say this week as far as my birthday is concerned other than that, I’m thankful because not a lot of people get to see this age. I’m going to try my best not to waste this chance we call LIFE.
